LIVING OUT OF THE OVERFLOW

God’s blessings have been many and it seems that I began a new season of life, a life full of joy overflowing with blessings. It was different than anything I had prayed for and so much more than I ever dreamed of. I was simply requesting more time with my girlfriends –the fabulous six. The Lord instead began to open my eyes to Church Ladies everywhere I went. Before I knew it, I was seeing my friends more, which included those special lunch dates.

It was clear that my efforts to protect myself had boxed me in. Only God Himself, His power working through me, would keep everything in order — the ministry, my marriage, family, and even my much-needed “girl time,” all in balance. He got my full attention during this dry, lonely season. I have learned to rest in Him and wait on Him before making any decisions. When we trust in Him alone, He will do the work and we will live out of the overflow. Living in the overflow, there is no stress. And the freedom we experience when we rely on Him, ah … the peace while riding that wave is priceless!

One year we had so much rain in our area that the dams on the lakes were overflowing. There was nothing that anyone could do to stop the overflow. The people downstream had to get out of the way and run to safety. That’s not the case when we experience overflow from what God is doing in the Christian life. There is no hurried scramble and stress to get out of the way. No. Instead, in the overflow is where we find rest, peace, and calm. Riding this wave of overflow is the abundant life! We don’t miss out when we live in His overflow. Are you stressed about something today? If so, give it to God. Rest in Him. Wait on Him and you too will experience the peace that is birthed out of your nothingness and His overflow. Learning this lesson has made all the difference in my life!

I stopped being so rigid and have become more fluid. It’s wonderful! You should try it. I recognize that some of those spur-of-the-moment opportunities are the best ones. I’m not as hurried as I use to be; therefore, I notice what is going on around me.

While at the grocery store I saw a darling elderly lady on her tip-toes reaching for an ingredient located on the top shelf. I said, “Looks like you need some help. Let me get that for you.”

“Oh honey, can you reach it? They put things so high up that you need to tote a stepstool with you to the grocery store these days.” We laughed. She told me what she was baking that day and realized she didn’t have any vanilla bean. She went on to tell me that she had always depended on her husband to reach things, but that he had passed away a year ago.
